What We Do

The two main functions of the Highway Department are Road Maintenance/Reconstruction and Snow Removal.

For new driveways on town roads there is a driveway permit that is required and may be obtained at the Town Highway Department office or by using the link under "Documents" below to download and print it. Information needed is your name and present address, tax map number of the parcel for the new driveway and a marked indication of the location of the proposed driveway.  There is a $100 charge for this permit.

A road opening permit is required before you can do any work on a town road.  You need to contact Underground Utilities for a case number, obtain a Certificate of Insurance with the Town of Saugerties Highway Department as Policy Holder. Upon completion of these, set an appointment to have a permit filed for the work.  The Application/Permit for Road Opening can be downloaded below (under "Documents") and printed.

Winter/Snow

When snow is on the ground, keep in mind that there is no parking on Town streets from November 15th through April 15th to allow for snow removal to proceed without obstruction.

See Town Highway Superintendent Raymond Mayone's wintertime message for more information, including laws you want to be sure you're aware of, regarding snow/ice removal.

Note that there are separate wintertime "no parking" rules for Village streets (no overnight parking from Dec. 15th to March 15th).  For further information about Village winter parking, visit the "Village Winter Reminder" page.
