Lake Sophia is located in the Sojourner Truth State Park (100 Sojourner Truth Way, Kingston), opened in July, 2026.
The lake is very deep, so the swim crib provides a shallow lake swimming experience for visitors to enjoy. Water flows between the crib and lake through its slotted floor and walls.
Swimming at Lake Sophia is open daily 10am – 5:45pm through Labor Day weekend.
When you visit the park by car, there is an $8/vehicle parking fee. (Monday-Friday, there is no parking fee for seniors (62+).
There is limited parking (to help keep overcrowding to a minimum) and so visitors are advised to:
- Visit on weekdays rather than on weekends
- Consider other options for getting there:
- Bicycling in
- Riding the free Ulster County Nature Bus (https://ucat.ulstercountyny.gov/routes/nature-bus/), which visits the park.
The swimming facilities at Lake Sophia are ADA-compliant.
