Seeking Comments on Leacheate from Solid-Waste Management Facilities and Landfills

ny-dec-logo-transparent.png.webpIn the Town Board meeting of Wednesday, Sept. 2nd, a key item that was covered was the Town Board's support for Amendments that strengthen the handling of potentially dangerous Solid-Waste Management and Landfill leacheate.  The Saugerties Town Board feels that a glaring deficiency of the DEC draft is not addressing the means to remove it from inactive landfills.  We are calling on the scope to be broadened to include inactive landfills and funding for PFAS remediation.  To read Supervisor Fred Costello's 9/3/2026 letter to the Riverkeeper with the Town Board's position, please click here.

During the Town Board meeting, residents were encouraged to read the letter, and if appropriate, offer their support by making their own public comment.  The full set of links and other information about this can be found by clicking here.

The comment period for this ends on September 9th.  The call for public comments is an opportunity to express any thoughts/opinions you might have.

Comments can be made by an email addressed to SolidWasteRegulations@dec.ny.gov, Subject:  "Comments on Proposed Part 360 Series".
