Clear Snow from Hydrants in Saugerties

Clear Snow from Hydrants in Saugerties

Friendly Reminders from the Saugerties Town and Village Boards

Fire Hydrant - Be a Hydrant Hero copy.webp

As winter weather continues, the Town and Village Boards would like to remind residents of an important local law that helps keep our community safe.

If there is a fire hydrant on or near your property, please remember to keep it clear of snow and ice after a snowfall.

What’s required in general:

  • Clear snow and ice (within three (3) feet in the Town and within 30 inches in the Village) around the hydrant
  • Ensure there is access from the hydrant to the roadway
  • For the Town, please do this within 12 hours after snowfall, or within 12 hours after sunrise if snow falls overnight.  For the Village, the requirement is within 24 hours of the snowfall.

We all know we are all fortunate to have firefighter volunteers who keep us all safer by being on call for unfortunate incidents that can occur.  This is the chance for all of us to help out the firefighters, who are dedicated to helping us.  And to the many Town and Village residents who are already following these important laws ... many, many thanks!
