The Wall of Manitou ... Native American name for the Hudson Valley Catskills escarpment

The "Wall of Manitou" in Ulster County refers to the dramatic Catskill Escarpment, a steep, cliff-like mountain range rising abruptly from the Hudson Valley, named by Native Americans who believed the Great Spirit (Manitou) resided there.

This geological feature, also known as the Catskill Front, offers stunning views, hosts famous locations like Kaaterskill Falls, and is a popular destination for hiking the Escarpment Trail through protected Forest Preserve land.
